Emergency Situations

Sadly we are unable to provide donations to financially challenged caretakers to cover expenses and costs for animals in need of emergency surgery, long term illness medication, long term illness treatment or funds for disease diagnosis.

If you have financial constraints and are seeking emergency financial assistance to cover veterinary care for a sick or injured Shiba, please investigate the following options:

In Memory of Magic (IMOM)

Angels4Animals

The Pet Fund

United Animal Nations (UAN)

American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA)

How We Operate

Shiba Inu Rescue Mid Atlantic Region, Inc is not a commercial business and does not represent to sell dogs for any equitable means! We are non profit organization incorporated in the state of Virginia.

We work closely with other Shiba Rescue organizations throughout the United States, Canada, and Japan.

The Shiba Inu Rescue Mid Atlantic Region, Inc representatives select families through an application process to allow us to make the most suitable match between adopter and Shiba. We reserve the right to thoroughly evaluate prospective owners and prohibit any adoptions we deem unsuitable for any reason. The bottom line is the welfare of our canine companions!

Whenever possible, we place surrendered adoptable dogs in a network of volunteer foster homes, where the Shiba receives any medical attention needed.

We also do our best to teach the dogs basic manners, obedience, and socialization. We expose them to stimulus (i.e. unusual noises, touching) to gauge their responses & tolerance to certain situations.

We evaluate the dog to determine what type of household the dog will be most relaxed and happy in.

Our Hours of Operation

We are a small volunteer organization. The work we do with rescue is a part-time sideline to our daily activities. We include rescue into our lives out of compassion for animals and love of the Shiba breed. As such, we DO NOT operate as a funded municipal shelter or professional kennel but through a network of fosters who lovingly take Shibas into their homes until a "forever" home can be found.

We attempt to contact potential adoption candidates as our schedules allow. Due to our limited time-frames, if you have filled out an application, we will only contact those who most closely meet the needs of a particular dog. If you do not wish to remain on the adoption list or adopt through another source please let us know so that we can pull your application from our active list. (All applications are removed after 1 year of inactivity.)

We ask that potential adopters who are on the waiting list to be patient. It can take several weeks to many months to find the right match between adopter and Shiba.
