| Mid-Atlantic Shiba Rescue does not ‚give away dogs or place dogs on demand!
We do not sell or purchase dogs. Shiba Rescue foster volunteers invest much of their own time and money in order to rehabilitate surrendered dogs. Each dog is spayed or neutered, brought up to date on shots, and microchipped and given a full medical check before any adoption takes place. The full cost of vet bills are out of pocket expenses paid for by volunteers. To defray these out of pocket expenses we have an adoption fee.
These preliminary costs are fees that the average pet owner would have to pay and we are saving you time and travel by taking care of the initial vet evaluations and surgery visits. We find that a Shiba is better adjusted and ready to settle into its new home once vet services have been rendered before placement.
Below are listed the general steps that must occur for adoption to take place
Application
Be sure to fill out an adoption application to be considered in the adoption process. (please note, although you may have filled out an application with another rescue organization we will not have that on file so we will need you to fill out an application specific to Mid-Atlantic Shiba Rescue) By filling out the adoption form, we are able to start making the best match between Shiba and potential adopter.
Home Visit
In fulfilling our mission to find a forever home for each dog, we interview all applicants in their home before any placement is made and to carefully consider the needs of each animal so that there is a successful adoption. We expect each adopter to keep and love their Shiba for its entire life. A home check will be made during the review process if you are selected as a final candidate for adoption.
Adoption Fees for MASR Fostered Dogs
For general adoptions we require an adoption fee of $350 for dogs under 1 year of age and $300 for dogs 1 year of age or over. There is a $25 rebate upon proof of obedience training within 6 months of adoption.
Contract
Each adopter will be required to sign an adoption contract before the dog goes home with its new family. You will be given an opportunity to review a copy of an adoption contract during the home visit or final meeting prior to taking your dog home.
Post- Adoption
After each adoption we request the adoptive family maintain contact with former foster volunteer(s) to insure that integrations and adjustments go smoothly with their adopted Shiba.
Courtesy Listed Dogs/Dogs on Referral
Do you have to fill out an application for "Courtesy Listed" dogs?
Yes, an application should be submitted unless the Shiba you are interested in is listed with a shelter. Shelter dogs require direct responses to the facility adoption coordinator.
"Courtesy Listed" designation indicates that the dog is not being cared for by MASR nor has MASR evaluated the dog posted and can not provide verification as to validity of the information provided.
Please be sure to investigate all aspects of Courtesy Listed animals available for adoption, including the suitability of the dog for your personal situation. By proceeding in Courtesy Listed adoptions you, hereby release MASR from any liability in connection with the courtesy listed dog.
If you adopt an animal that is "courtesy listed", you will be obligated to work out adoption arrangements privately with the owner or foster you are in contact with. MASR will not be involved in the negotiations and transactions or results that occur between adopter and owner of "courtesy listed" animals.
However, we will do our best to help act as a liaison to bring together adoption applicants and those wishing to surrender and also provide information to assist you in the adoption or surrender process.
Please contact shibarescue.masr@yahoo.com if you have questions. |
